Simple themed basing

This kind of basing works well for a group of miniatures following the same theme. Squads, regiments and even whole armies look great with little effort.  A single piece of detail can make a world of difference to an otherwise plain base.

  1. Firstly, glue your miniature to the base.  The way you attach your miniatures can vary from company to company.  Some use a ‘slot’ design whilst others are glued on to the base by the bottom of the miniatures feet.
  2. Randomly place one or two resin pieces on the base.  Have a play about re-arranging and replacing parts until you are happy with where you want them.
  3. Glue your resin parts onto the base and allow it to dry.
  4. Apply PVA to all other areas of the base, making sure you don’t get any glue on the actual miniature or the rim of the base.
  5. Sprinkle your desired core scatter material over the base and allow it to dry. I refer to core scatter as any scatter material that is added to an unpainted base (sand, granite, cork etc..).  Grass flock and other foliage should be added in later stages.
  6. Shake off any excess scatter material and give your miniature a gentle brush down as some scatter material can leave a thin dusty layer.  Now it’s ready to paint!
